Food, Food, Food!

If you couldn’t tell by now, this weeks blog post is going to be on food. Food is one not so little thing that brings me lots of joy and happiness! As some of you may know, one of my favorite things to do on the weekend is going to breakfast with my friends and just catch up on life. Some of my favorite foods are breakfast foods because when you wake up in the morning to good food, you know that day will be amazing.

Some may call me the chef at home because I make some great breakfast foods. One of my specialties is avocado toast with a sunny side up egg on top. My twin, Charley craves this almost 24/7 so she is lucky I make them for her. Usually, I make her clean our room if I make her food though! It is a nice trade-off.

Another specialty of mine is smoothie bowls. This is actually so easy to make! All I do is get a Trader Joe’s mixed berry mix, a banana, greek yogurt, and milk and put that in a blender. While that is blending up, I cut some strawberries, and then all I have to do is assemble. It turns out so yummy, with fresh berries, granola and LOTS of honey!

Onto lunch & dinner! Sometimes my favorite lunch and dinner foods are simply just comfort foods. A lot of nights, buttered noodles. are just the way to go. Another way to go is breakfast for dinner. Smoothies, cereal, bagels, and more are just so much more simple to make than an elaborate dinner. But when I don’t have breakfast, sometimes I like fast food. Now when. eat fast food it is more of a cheat day, but my favorite place is The Nugget, but I also enjoy Padaro Beach grill, The Solvang, and more!

Finally, the part that every kid looks forward to, dessert. my personal favorite dessert is ice cream, specifically gelato. Whenever I travel, I like to find the best gelato places, but locally, I love Scoops, Roris, and Café Dolce.

Fun at the fair.

This Friday, my adventure was one that the majority of people my age is Santa Barbara were doing, the Santa Barbara Fair and Expo. But this isn’t the beginning of my adventure, it starts at my good friend Mia’s house.

We wanted to go on a little walk, and so Mia knew exactly the spot. We walked near the beach and she took us to a secret spot. The process of getting to this spot was absolutely mortifying. We walked down a very this path, that had only sand on the bottom, so I was slipping all over the place, meanwhile Mia and Ryan were running ahead. At some point, there was a section where it was a super thin path, and one wrong step I would have fallen at least 20 feet onto the beach. Terrifying I know, but once we got there, it was very pretty. We got there right at sunset, and so that made it 10x more stunning! When we got back to the normal path, I was covered in dirt, because I may have slipped a few times!

Now it was time to go to the fair! Right away, we knew what Ryan’s first ever fair ride should be, The Zipper. We decided to start her off pretty easy, because she had only been on one other roller coaster ever! This one I went on with Ryan, and her reaction was great, we were both screaming quite a bit, but little did we know this would be one of the less scary rides we would go on. Our next ride was Inversion. At one point we were suspended upside down for what seemed like an eternity, but it was so fun! We ended up having so much fun that we went on it twice! Our next adventure of the night took place at Turbo, the newest addition of the fair. It was hands down the scariest ride at the park and I’m so glad I went on it! Then we went onto Quasar, and this ride was directly horizontal, spinning super fast, and I was definitely running into Milo, who was to the right of me! Next, you can’t go to the fair without going on the Ferris Wheel, so we went on that! The view was gorgeous! The lights from the fair were so pretty, and bright! The view was gorgeous! The lights from the fair were so pretty, and bright!

Our last ride was Inversion for the second time! By about 11:00 the line was much shorter, so we were able to squeeze it in before we left. When we left, on top of our several churros throughout the night, we got some snacks. We got Lime flavored tostitos, sour patch kids, jolly ranchers, and sprite.

A Little Day In The Life

Hi! I am Anabel Goldstein, and I am going to tell you about a day in my life!

At about 7:00 am, I wake up, and get ready for the day in the morning, with a nice shove from my twin sister, Charley.  The next thing I do is get dressed, and this is a struggle for me, because unlike Charley, I am not very fashionable. Somehow I manage everyday though. The next thing I do is go out to the kitchen where I am welcomed by my mother, Jules Allen, who will either make me breakfast, or I will simply have some cereal. Then, I brush my teeth, and meet my dad in the car.

The next thing I do is head to school. All of my classes, are with my peers in the MAD academy, and being with my friends makes the school day 100x better! My first class is English, and this class, I must admit is not my favorite, but we enter class, read for 20 minutes, then the rest of class, we work on our most recent project. Then I go to AP biology, where first thing, I have a warm up, then we learn something insanely confusing that I don’t understand! Next up is MAD elective, which is one of my favorite classes, because I am able to be creative and express myself through art. Lastly, I have AP world history, where we learn about the history of the world. Shocker right? This class I find interesting, but it is right before lunch, so it is when I’m hungry, and always in a weird mood.

The next thing I do is go to lunch. Normally, I go to lunch with Sierra, Brook, Emi, Taylor, Maddie, Will, Marley, Audrey, and Roxy. Lunch is my social time at school, and normally the most fun part of being at school. Whats better than eating and laughing with friends?! After about 40 minutes, the bell rings, and while all of my friends have 5th period, I go home instead. At home I try to do homework. The key word in that sentence is “try” because most of the time I wind up watching Netflix instead… oops. Well, after about 4 hours of procrastination, I head to dance.

I am normally at dance from about 5:30 or 4:30 pm to 8:00 or 9:00 pm. Yes, this is a very long and late time, but it is worth it! Dance is the highlight of my day, and I don’t know what i would do without it in my life. I would certainly be bored 24/7! After dance, my dad drives me home, and I normally shower, and immediately after, go straight to sleep. (making time to go through my phone of course).

That was my day in the life! Comment down below your favorite part of the day.

5 Going on 6

This is Helen, my next door neighbor. She is now 6 years old and decided this is the year for a big birthday party! She invited all of her friends from her class, and that turned out to be a total of 36 kids! What a turn out am I right! But it was a great party with unlimited snacks, juice boxes, and best of all, Rori’s!! Rori’s is one of the best ice cream places in Montecito, and oh boy was it refreshing on a hot Santa Barbara day in the sun. Now this party wasn’t all fun in games, with 36 kids comes quite a few babysitters, and that’s where Charley, Karen, Angela, and I come into this party. We were on the trampoline and bounce-house duty, which was another part that made this party absolutely irresistible.

I must admit, trampoline duty was pretty nice. I drowned myself. in juice, pirates booty, and ice cream for three and a half hours, while occasionally making sure that there were only four people on the trampoline at a time. Along with that, sometimes I had to entertain the children which is actually pretty hard. Unless kids care about what you’re talking about, they won’t listen, especially if your just a babysitter with hardly any authority.

While sometimes I had to entertain the kids, whenever Gray was there, all the girls were entertained. Gray had the ladies all over him! At one point, he had girls practically tug of warring for his attention! We all know that he is the kindergarten cutie, and absolutely irresistible to his fellow classmates. Gray comes from Italy, so I guess even at such a young age, girls love foreign boys!

Towards the end of the party, it was time for Helen to have her birthday sundae!! She had whipped cream, chocolate ice cream, vanilla ice cream, and to top it off, a cherry. What is a sundae without a cherry, am I right?!?! Let me tell you, Helen gobbled this up, and could barely even wait for the candles to be blown out, and taken out of her cup!

When Life Gives You Lemons

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, and that is exactly what we did! But first, I will talk about early in the day. To begin the day, I met up with Ryan and Mia at Ryan’s house, which is conveniently close to mine! Our first adventure was a bike ride to get some ice cream, a vital part of everyday! My favorite local ice cream spot is scoops on Coast Village Road, and Ryan, as she is new to town, had never tried it!

A little background knowledge on Ryan. She lived in China, specifically Beijing, last year and played soccer there. She speaks Chinese as well as fluent English, and has many more talents! She also dances, plays tennis, and does beach volleyball as a Freshman at Laguna. Along with all of that, she is sporty with the voice of an angel as she writes and performs songs with her friends. She is definitely a well rounded, talented girl!

Mia is a dancer at Santa Barbara Dance Arts in Impact Dance company. Check out my blog post on Impact in my previous post called season 20 series 1! She dances to the beat of her own drum and it is beautiful to watch! She has amazing lines and is super flexible! She really is a treat to see on stage!

After getting scoops, we biked to Butterfly beach and hung out for a little while. We went on a beach walk, and then had a little photo shoot, which is always fun! It proved very difficult to get a good photo, as all of us are awkward in photos and don’t know how to pose! Here are some of the photos where we tried to be artsy, and it kind of, ishly worked! lol. (btw, its that color because i put my camera behind Ryan’s sunglasses!

After we took these, we biked back to Ryan’s and decided to make some sweet lemonade! First, we put water and sugar in a pan and melted that, and while that was melting we cut about 8 lemons! The next step was to squeeze all the juice out of the lemons. We decided we weren’t down for a ton of pulp in our drink, so we the strained the juice into a pitcher and added the sugar. Then we added a ton of ice so it wasn’t luke-warm lemonade which would be gross.

The lemonade was amazing! Be sure to like and comment, and enjoy this photo of Ryan looking like a swagmaster!

A Manhattan Beach Adventure

March 28, 2018

Our cousins, the Carpinos, were very close to us, in our previous trip to Century City, and my dad decided it was time for him  to get back to Santa Barbara, so we stayed at their house for 4 days and 3 nights! The first day was a Thursday, so Bella had school, but we had lunch with our Uncle John, and he is the most hilarious dude I know. When Bella and Nick got home, we all caught up, and I had so much fun seeing them again. The last time we saw them was months ago! Unfortunately, they still had homework, but Nick being the classic guy he is put it off until the last minute to hang out with us.

March 29, 2018

Today we had our day all planned out, Bella was no longer in school, and we knew we wanted to go for a beach day, but first,  PANCAKES!! We each had about 6 pancakes, and boy were we stuffed after that. Obviously the worst time to go out in your bathing suit is when your bloated from eating, but we didn’t care. We looked gr8! It was pretty cold out, so we just listened to music and talked about everything and anything, catching up on our lives! It was so fun!

Then we had a family dinner, with a lot of our Aunts and Uncles. Kari and John were there, because it was their house, but along with them, my Aunt Yvonne and Uncle Mike came, as well as my Aunt Ammine and Uncle Marty. This was such a treat, because I get to see them less often than the Carpinos.

March 30, 2018

Today was our last full day with the Carpinos, so we knew we had to do something super fun! Whats more fun than games and bowling?!?! But first, we went on a bike ride to get our local favorites, Noah’s Bagels and Jamba Juice! This was about a 15 minute bike ride, but of course there had to at least be one wipe out! As we were trying to leave Noah’s Bagels, Charley tookj a tumble on the bike, with the basket holding all of our stuff! Luckily, the bagels were intact!

The next order of business was Grocery Shopping with Johnny Boy! We naturally got slightly bored, so instead we went into the bathroom and Charley held both of us on her back!

Finally, it was time for bowling, the part I was most looking forward to! I took a major L, getting last place, but I was proud because I managed to get 2 spares, which was big for me! Anyways, we picked up Chinese food after an eventful game, with some fabulous victory dances if I do say so myself! When we got home we whipped out Cards Against Humanities, and I must admit that it was pretty awkward playing that with my aunts and uncles, but it was hilarious! I couldn’t catch my breath from laughing so hard!

Season 20 series 2

Configuration is a show that my dance studio, Santa Barbara Dance Arts, does every year. In fact, it is our 20th year of doing this show! In the show, I have 6 pieces, and I love them all. The show this year has a lot of contemporary which I love, and because of everything going on in the world right now, it is helpful to have a place and activity to let out all my emotions in. This week I am going to give you a little insight on Configuration in a nutshell.

Saturday, March 17, 2018

Today was the last day of configuration, and we had 2 shows today! The day started off with me rushing to pack and get my makeup on because I ended up sleeping in! Silly me! Anyways, once I got to the theatre, I was welcomed with a dance party! This was slightly ear piercing, but a lot of fun! Next was warm-up, which Axis, the highest company ran today! This is my first year in Axis and I had a lot of fun being able to do warm up. I was in charge of cardio, and I made everyone WORK! After warm-up, we had 30 minutes to get ready until showtime!

My first dance opened the show and it is called Where The Light Gets In, choreographed by Chloe Roberts (#chloerobertschoreo). My next dance is one of my favorites, and it is called Stormy Weather by Kelli Forman. In this dance we have umbrellas, and start happy, but we eventually get very sad, and have to fake cry! It is a very satirical piece and very fun to do. Our next dance closes the first act, and it is called Used To Be Mine by Janaya Cradle, and this is my parents personal favorite. This piece is a lyrical piece that was meant to set the tone for the hip hop/contemporary video run by Brittany Sandoval and shot by Millie Rietherman to Where is the Love by the Black Eyed Peas. We started a tradition where the advanced hip hop class creates a video that is relevant to what is going on in the world right now.

Now its time for the second act. Axis opens up the second act with our hip hop piece choreographed by Phil Wright, a very popular LA choreographer. We let the audience know we are ready by doing our axis chant, then we perform, and this dance is a big crowd pleaser! Lastly, to close off the show we have our big production piece with all 40 of the girls in company! The theme this year was 20 years ago, as a celebration of our 20th season of dance arts, and our dance was to Hit Me Baby One More Time choreographed by Janaya Cradle. Our costumes were school girl outfits with the classic pigtail braids and a puffball to top it off! This looked very good on stage, so I guess it was worth getting whacked in the face a bunch of times. And as the last part of the production, we did Wannabee, and I was dressed as ginger spice.

This is only one of the shows! Look out for next weeks blog to learn about lunch, closing night, the cast party at Kyles Kitchen, and finally, the Axis sleepover.

Season 20 Series 1

Configuration is a show that my dance studio Santa Barbara Dance Arts does, and has done for 20 years! It is dance arts’s 20th anniversary so this year, Configuration is even more special! The show is held at Center Stage Theater in Paseo Nuevo, and we have 5 shows! Last weekend we performed 2, and we only have 3 more to go! It’s going by too fast! As a celebration of our hard work paying off, I asked some of the girls what they love about dance and company!

This is impact dance company, the first level in company, and I asked them all what they love about dance because they all have amazing spirit.

Mia Andrade is a Freshman in high school at SBHS and is so much fun to be around! I have gotten to know her better this year and I am very happy that I am lucky enough get to know her. She said that dance allows her to be free and forget about everything else thats going on and just let go. Especially with everything going on, dance is a very helpful thing to let loose!

Frances Roserich is another member of imapct dance company who I am so happy to have gotten to know better this year! She said that dance has taught her to love herslef, and given her a second family who loves her!

Tara Pinisker is the littlest girl in impact dance company and is as cute as pie! She always has a smile opn her face and not a mean bone in her body. She loves dance because she has a lot of fun doing the thing that makes her happy with the people that make her happy!

Maddie Thomas is the sunshine on a cloudy day. She can make anyone smile always, and has a great attitude. When she dances she has so much spunk and fire! Maddie loves how dance lets her love herself and what she is able to do, and as well as that she has people who love her unconditionally.

This is Rina Glasman. She is the captain of impact dance company, and she was my company sister last year. Not only have I served as a mentor for her, being her big sister, but we have become very close friends! She is a super silly girl and can always put a smile on my face! She said that dance has allowed her to feel very confident in herself, and she  knows that she has a second family at dance who will always support her!

Skylar Yonemora is quite the mischievous girl, but I love her so much! We have gotten very close over the past year and I am very happy that I have a slither.io buddy always! Skylar said that she loves how she can be unapologeticly herself when she is dancing, and wont be judged at dance arts!

Ally Murphy is a member of impact dance company, and I have been able to watch her grow up and become the beautiful girl that she is today. She said that dance has given her a way to express herself that no other sport, or speaking can. She is able to get through any hardships through the support dance arts has given her and through her passion while dancing.

Sophia Dirksen is in impact dance company, and she is new to company this year! She has a wonderful spirit, and I am happy that I got to know her this year so far! She said that dance is a way for her to escape from her everyday life, where she doesn’t have to think about what’s going on, she just dances!

Maile Ise Ise Baby

This is Maile Alexi Ise, one of my very best friends, and she is a total goofball! Maile and I have been friends since she came to Montecito Union School in second grade! After we graduated 6th grade, I was home schooled in 7th grade, and didn’t get to see, but in 8th grade at Santa Barbara Junior High School, we reunited, and have been super close friends ever since! Maile does gymnastics at Girls Inc. and has won quite the collection of ribbons and tiaras! Along with being an amazing gymnast, she is an amazing friend who I am grateful to have in my life!

February 19, 2018

On this beautiful Monday morning, during presidents day weekend, Maile and I met up at our favorite local breakfast spot, Summerland Beach Cafe. I love it because 1, the food is amazing, and 2, it is such a quirky place, from serving Voss water to naming all their food after local businesses. I can always find something new and delicious there. Maile ordered the Serendipity… Up or flippity, and I ordered the bodacious cinnamon roll! Our next stop was walking towards Sheffield to meet up with another good friend of ours, Emi Wahlberg. Then, we walked all the way back to Summerland, when we decided it would be a fun idea to walk to Sacred Space.

We got there, and were mesmerized by all the pretty statues and sitting areas. Filled with a peaceful aroma, inspiring quotes, and lemons people had left, we just admired the gorgeous store. Maile was the only one who had been there prior, and she was determined to get the yummy sugar cubes, so that was our first mission! After finding and enjoying the sugar cubes, which I thought would be the perfect movie snack, we just sat and admired everything for a while. My favorite part was the color schemes! As shown in the photo above, this was a section full of all yellow, and I thought it was very aesthetic. Along with this, there was a purple section of crystals in the store, and just like my closet, it was color coordinated which I’m obsessed with!

Overall, I had an amazing time, and was so happy to hang out with one and only Maile Ise, because I missed her greatly!

Frankie Fairweather

This is the lovely Frankie Harman. She is a breath of fresh air in every room, and can light up the world with her smile! Frankie has a contagious laugh, and never fails to bring happiness and joy to anyone’s day! Frankie is an absolutely stunning dancer who has done so many great things in her dance career. Just a few of those include winning teen star dance, learning from the Alvin Ailey summer intensive, placing first on her solo at her recent competition, and so much more!

February 24, 2018

For Frankie’s ideal happy day, she wanted to be dancing all day, but because there were no classes available after 11:15, we decided to go on a picnic at the Santa Barbara mission instead. Before this, we had a very fun ballet class, which turned into a contemporary class with the amazing Ms. Chloe Roberts, (#chloerobertschoreo)! We did a dance to Lea Michelle’s If You Say So, and it was one of my favorite combos by her!

Our next stop was the Trader Joes, so we could get food for our picnic. We got carrots and hummus, which was so bomb, and raspberries, Caesar salad, and our favorite choice of dessert, mini peanut butter cups! We ended up finishing off almost all of them (oops…)! After that, we headed to the rose gardens, and the scenery was absolutely stunning, with fresh grass, and a few roses. Along with that, we got a great view of the rest of the mission!

After our little picnic, we sat at the benches and tried to guess stranger’s life stories, which was so entertaining, as we waited for Frankie’s mom, Pamela, to drive us to Nordstroms to run some errands. While Pamela bought some new clothes, Frankie and I ordered some iced tea from Nordstrom Cafe, and chatted a bit more! My favorite part about eating there are the chocolates that they give us in the check. They never fail to taste amazing!

When Pamela was done running errands, we walked to the car, bumping into family friends on the way, and Frankie got ready to watch teen star, and she took her good friend from elementary school Bridget Blinderman with her!

Overall, we had an amazing time, and I love spending time with Frankie! Comment down below your favorite local picnic spot!
